Relay For Life

And We're Off....

We've started a team to help raise support to fight cancer through the American Cancer Society Relay for Life!

If you want to join the team go to this link: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=24073 and follow the link to JOIN a TEAM. Then type in Fowler MS Band and join us!
You'll get to create your own page and email, post, and share from that page. Relay happens on May 7th and runs all night until 6:30am the next morning. The point of relay is to help fight cancer but we have a great time doing the events, playing games, and coming up with silly ways to raise support. As soon as I know the theme for Relay this year I will let you know so we can design our own Team Theme!
Start thinking of people that you'd like to share with about Relay for Life.

Meeting Notes 1-20

Council,
Here's notes from our meeting in case you missed or forgot already :)
Take note of things being "due" and double check about Relay for Life (www.friscorfl.com)
and about the Beginner Drives.

See me if you have questions!

Mrs. Amato

NOTES:

-Work on motivational/spirit posters to hang up- need them by the week of February 8th

-Sign up for beginner drive slots are 4-7 or 7-9:45 yes you can sign up for more than one time if you have parental permission

-Relay for Life- Will we or won’t we? The date for the event is May 7-8. Remember you don’t have to attend the event to participate in raising support, but you do have to commit to raising $100 to get your t-shirt (think if we all raised $100 that’s $1300!!!) Let me know your decision by February 5th. If you want to attend the event and stay the night I’m in- if you want other non-band council friends to be with you there must be a parent to stay. See me if you have questions.

Up Coming Events

Hey Gang!
It's been a while since we've been in communication and it's time to get crackin' on some new things!

First Things First- do well on your semester exams!

Next- We need you to be prepared to work at our Beginner Band Drives on the following dates:
February 1st & February 2nd after school from 4:00-8:30ish
I don't expect you to stay the whole time but would appreciate it if you could either work the first 2 hours (4-6pm) or the 2nd 2 hours (6pm-8:30) this way we will have enough people to help with meeting and greeting the incoming 6th graders and their parents.

Your jobs will mainly be:
Getting papers to and explaining the process of trying the instruments at the "Sign In" table or taking photos of the students with their prospective instruments after they have gone through the process.

Finally, we need to start thinking about motivating our bands as we gear up for contest season. Lets plan to make some motivational posters to inspire everyone to keep focused and aim for being the best we can be!

We will have a meeting Wednesday January 20th at 8am- please plan to attend, we will talk about Beginner Drives, making posters and whether we want to do Relay for Life this year.

Thanks!

Mrs. Amato

It's PARTY TIME!

Hey Council,
Time to start thinkin' 'bout the Band Fall Party. If you have ideas about things email or tell me as soon as possible so I can share that with our parents who are coordinating this event. We will need you to volunteer some of your time at the party to help with the games. I'll have a sign up sheet the week of the party for you to sign up to work. Plan to stay after school on the 23rd so you can help us decorate and set up. Also plan to stay a little after the party to help tear down and clean up!
Great work at the football game! You were great leaders and workers :)

Great Job at the Dance- Now for the Football Game!

Hey Guys,
Great job helping at the dance! I hope you had fun as you worked. Now for the next job!
Pep Rally & Football Game:
For the Pep Rally we need your help getting equipment BACK from the gym at the end and getting it put back in the appropriate place (not in the middle of the room). This is where LEAD BY EXAMPLE comes into play- show people where to put the equipment and encourage them to do so as well.

Football Game:
  • You get to load first on the bus but we need some of you to help by getting coolers and stands on the truck before we go.
  • You need to get off the bus first at the game.
  • We need you to help unload the coolers and stands at the game- you will take the coolers to the ramp where we enter and leave them there at the bottom. The stands will go to the first row of seats and then be passed out to those needing them. Understand that you may need to wait to unpack your instrument after we unload these items.
  • In the stands- Please help keep fellow band members from playing on their instruments when we are not ALL playing. Help us encourage (politely) those people who want to move seats or do things that are inappropriate for football games.
  • When it's water time we will tell you to come down and help pass them out.
  • When it's pizza time we may ask you to help if we don't have enough parents to help, but otherwise you will eat with everyone else.
  • When it's time to collect trash in the stands we need your help gathering and getting the trash into the bag- recyclables into a separate bag.
  • MAY BE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU DO: At the end of the game you need to stay back and help clear the stands of any leftover trash, items, etc... You will be the last to get on the bus at the end of the game- but it will all have been worth it!
If you have questions ask me!
Your help is greatly appreciated and so necessary to have things go smoothly!

Thanks,
~Mrs. Amato

The Dance- Yippy!!

Hey Council!

Here's the skinny on the dance:
You need to be here after school to help with any last minute set up. Then we need you to help work the 6th grade dance- it goes from 4:30-6pm. We need help cleaning up between the dance then after that you get to enjoy your own dance! You get into your dance for free :)

Following the dances we need your help cleaning up- plan to stick around about 15-30 minutes after the dance to help clean up.

Thanks!!
